Wages by Industry
What it means
Emerging industries include Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation; Educational Services; Finance and Insurance; Information; and Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services. These are the industries the Cape would like to see grow in the future to better balance the tourism economy and provide more year-round, high-skill, high-wage jobs for residents.
The importance of increasing industry diversity can be seen by looking at wage data. The average wage in the emerging industry cluster ($ for Barnstable County) is signficantly higher than in the core cluster, which is relatively well paid when compared to the US but less so when compared to the state as a whole. Even so, emerging industry wages seriously lag those found statewide and in the US.
